One reason for this is the handling of data protection. Facebook collects users' data unnoticed and uses it for commercial purposes.
The Cambridge Analytica scandal also showed how Facebook user data is being misused to influence political voting decisions. If the security of your data is important to you, you should think about saying goodbye to Facebook permanently. Below you will find out how you can delete your Facebook account.
Back Up Data Before Deleting
If you delete your Facebook account, your profile, photos, posts and everything you have ever posted on Facebook will be irretrievably lost. If you want to keep this data, you should back it up in advance. Downloading the data goes like this:
- Log in to Facebook. There is a small arrow at the top right. Click on this and select “Settings and privacy” and then “Settings” in the pull-down menu that opens.
- On the left you will find the section “Your Facebook information”.
- Here, click “View” to the right of the “Download your information” line. Now you can select in the overview which data you want to download and in what form.
- Once you have made your selection, click on “Request Download”. You will receive an email with a link and a notification via Facebook.
- Either click on the Facebook notification or on the link in the email. Then click “Download”. After entering your Facebook password, you will receive access to a ZIP archive containing your files. Download the ZIP file to your hard drive and unzip it there.
Delete Facebook Account
You have two options here: firstly, you can delete your Facebook account via the settings in Facebook:
- Log in to Facebook. There is a small arrow at the top right. Click on this and select “Settings and privacy” and then “Settings” in the pull-down menu that opens.
- On the left you will find the section “Your Facebook information”.
- Here, click on “Deactivation and deletion” and select “Delete account”.
- To confirm, Facebook will ask you to enter your password. Enter this and then click “OK”. You will then be logged out of Facebook.
The Back Door
Do you have doubts and change your mind? No problem. The deletion process only really comes into effect after 30 days. If you log in to your Facebook account again during this period, the deletion process will be canceled. If you do not log in, the entire process will take up to 90 days until your Facebook account is irretrievably deleted.
Delete Facebook Account – These Are The Consequences
Do you use Facebook to log in to third parties such as Spotify, Tinder or Pinterest? If you have deleted your Facebook account, you can no longer log in there with your Facebook account details. Here you should find out in advance whether there are alternative login options for your apps and switch to these before deleting your Facebook account.
Are you still not sure whether you really want to delete your Facebook account and just want to take a break from Facebook? Then instead of deleting it, there is also the option of temporarily deactivating your Facebook account. Proceed in the same way as the deletion instructions; Simply select “Deactivate account” instead of “Delete account” in the history.
