Do You Still Have A Game Boy?

It was bulky, gray, and didn't even have a backlight. Nonetheless, Nintendo's first Game Boy was a groundbreaking success.A lot has happened since this model. We'll take you on a journey from the earliest gaming consoles to today's cutting-edge devices.

Feel Like A kid Again

Handheld consoles have not lost their charm to this day. That's no wonder, because they are ideal for gambling on the go. They provide lots of fun on the train, on the plane or on the park bench. Even if the smartphone is now giving them a lot of competition, there is still a large market. Many gamers also buy used retro models because they would like to relive the games from their childhood.

The Game Boy - A Cult Classic

The first Game Boy appeared in 1989 and laid the foundation for Nintendo's decades of success as the leading manufacturer of handheld consoles. Occasionally there was competition. But for a long time the market was dominated by the Japanese manufacturer. He shaped entire generations. Maybe you also have one of the small game consoles lying around in a drawer at home.

The Game Boy had no backlight and weighed about 300g. The games could be controlled using a control pad and two buttons. It also had a select and a start button. A mono speaker provided the sound.

It didn't stop with that first Game Boy. The Game Boy Color followed in 1998. As the name already suggests, games could finally be displayed in color on it. At the same time, it impressed with a significantly higher computing power. In 2001 the Game Boy Advance came onto the market, which was equipped with a different shape for the first time. The controls were now to the left and right of the screen, rather than below it.

The Nintendo DS - The Dawn Of A New Era

With the Nintendo DS, Nintendo finally said goodbye to its successful Game Boy series. The device appeared in 2004 and had two screens, a touchscreen and a microphone, allowing communication with friends. Later, Nintendo released the Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, and Nintendo DSi XL.

Sony Tries It's Luck And Presents The PSP

The PlayStation Portable is Sony's first handheld console. It appeared in 2004 and was therefore serious competition for the Nintendo DS. It not only allowed the playing of well-known games, but also made it possible to listen to music and watch films. The proud owners could even surf the Internet on it. In the meantime, however, production has been discontinued and a successor is not yet in sight. Of course, you can still buy the PlayStation Portable used.

Nintendo Switch - The Best Of Both Worlds?

Nintendo has released a number of different handheld consoles over the decades. With its current model, the Japanese manufacturer has tried to combine its stationary consoles and its handheld devices. It should enable players to simply take their favorite games with them from their home console. In the past, it was often the case that different games could be played on the stationary Nintendo consoles than on the handheld versions.

The Steam Deck For PC Games

The Steam Deck was released in February 2022 and was produced by Valve Corporation. This is a small portable computer that makes it possible to enjoy PC games on the go. It has a 7-inch LCD display, a decent 16 gigabytes of RAM and, depending on the model, 64, 256 or 512 gigabytes of internal memory.

Buy Used Consoles And Save Money

Of course, new devices like the Steam Deck come at a price, but if you love the retro charm of the old devices, you can buy your personal handheld used. This is cheap and sustainable at the same time! Due to their robust construction, old Game Boys, for example, can still be used today. To be sure that the device is working properly, it is best to buy it from a dealer who has checked it beforehand.
