Android Tips: Web Apps For Different Browsers

It can be useful to assign a web apps to a specific browser, and not just for foldable smartphones with a very large display, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. Even on a smaller display, you have the option of displaying several apps on one screen at the same time.

The quickest way to do this is if the links immediately open the relevant app that you want to use. We have summarized how this works for you in this guide.

What Is The Purpose Of Assigning A Browser?

There are several uses for assigning a specific browser—other than the default browser—for individual web apps. Modern mobile websites are built and feel like apps. However, by default, when you add a web app to the Start screen, it opens with the default browser. For example, if you want to quickly open two web apps in parallel, the second app would simply open as a new window in the default browser.

But if, for example, you follow a gaming event on Twitch in the stream, cheer it on and at the same time would like to place eSports bets on Betway on the match, it makes sense to be able to continue following the stream while placing the bet. After all, a new option in a live bet could spontaneously arise or the course of the game could suddenly change.

Even if you want to watch YouTube videos in the browser with a gaming smartphone and gamble at the same time, the feature can be very useful. Incidentally, this not only works on foldable devices, but also on classic smartphones. Android supports screen splitting, so you can view multiple different apps - two browsers, for example - on one screen.

Create Shortcuts To Web Apps Using Another Browser

With the following six steps you can place a shortcut to a web apps on your home screen and open it with an alternative browser instead of using the default browser. Just follow the guide below:

  1. Download and open the alternative browser on your Android phone, e.g. Firefox.
  2. Go to the website you want to add to the home screen as a web app.
  3. Tap the menu icon or the share icon in the browser to bring up the menu.
  4. In the menu that appears, you will see various options. Look for the "Add to Home Screen"option or something similar and tap on it.
  5. A pop-up window will appear where you can customize the shortcut name if desired.
  6. Confirm the action by tapping Add or OK.

After completing these steps, the web apps will be created as a shortcut on your home screen. Now when you tap on that shortcut, the alternate browser you used to create the shortcut will open. Not only is a link to a website stored, but also information about the browser used to open it.
